A great short-lived annual herb that has a ferny foliage which is highly attractive and most delicate. The plant is surprisingly compact, making it ideal for growing in small containers, in the garden, or ideal for windowsills. It will grow to approximate 15" to 20" tall. Very easy to grow.
You want to sow dill in April to July, in successive sowings. Sow thinly, (1/4") deep and about 6 inches apart. Can also be sown at 68-86F on the surface of a free draining, damp seed compost. Apply a fine sprinkling of vermiculite and keep moist and in direct sunlight.
After seed sprouts, thin seedlings when large enough to handle to about 2in apart. Transplant into trays and then eventually plant outside (if you started the seed indoors), 6in apart or into containers. Works well in a well drained soil in full sun. Its seeds, dill seed are used as a spice, and its fresh leaves, dill, and its dried leaves, dill weed, are used as herbs.
Approximate Seeds Per Ounce: 10,000
