Obedient Plant

Obedient Plant - Physostegia Virginiana
Obedient Plant
Season: Perennial
Zones: 3 - 9
Height: 2 - 3 Feet
Bloom Season: Late Summer to Fall
Environment: Full Sun, Moist but Well Drained

This obedient plant cultivar is a compact, erect, clump-forming but rhizomatous perennial which typically grows 1-2' tall on stiff, square stems and features dense spikes of rich pink, tubular, two-lipped, snapdragon-like flowers which bloom throughout the summer. Blooms from bottom to top on each spike. Narrow, lance-shaped, sharp-toothed leaves (to 4" long). Genus members are commonly called obedient plants because each individual flower will, upon being pushed in any one direction, temporarily remain in the new position as if it were hinged.

Growing and Maintenance Tips:
Easily grown in average, medium wet, well-drained soil in full sun. Compact form with less tendency to flop than other cultivars of this species. Divide every 2-3 years to control growth.
