Zoysia Japonica is an improved variety developed from research programs with better control of genetic protection and quality. This improved variety has a higher turf quality, finer leaf texture, and darker green color compared to common types. Zenith is widely recognized as an improved seeded zoysiagrass.

It is an excellent choice for golf courses, athletic fields, and landscapes in both transition and southern areas. Zenith has improved seed productivity, turf quality and playability, good density, extreme wear resistance, moderately fine leaf texture and uniformity. Zenith also has excellent heat and drought tolerance, low nitrogen fertility requirement, high purity and germination rates, easily adaptable to various types of soils, excellent turf density, improved shade and disease tolerance, and a deep green color. Zenith zoysia grass looks much like Meyer (Z-52). It is not as fine bladed as Emerald Zoysia. Tests plots of Zenith seed clearly demonstrate that Zenith produces a higher quality turf than imported Zoysia seed. Zenith Zoysia is know to survive as far north as Chicago extending over to New York. It is a low growing creeping grass that is heat resistant, drought resistant, wear resistant, and cold resistant.

Zoysia grass can be slow to get established; however, seeded per instructions on a new seedbed and well managed, a spring planting of Zenith can produce a good lawn by early fall. Zenith has more tolerance for extreme cold and light shade than Bermuda, and much more tolerance for extreme heat and high humidity than ryegrasses, fescues, and bluegrasses. It will compete well with crabgrass and other annual weed grasses, and usually chokes out cool season grasses in hot, humid climates. Once the turf is fully established, it forms the most dense turf of any grass available. A soil pH between 6.5 and 7.0 is optimum for zoysia grass.

COMPARISON CHART - Here is a quick chart to help you compare between Zenith and Compadre (formerly Companion). The checkmark designates the better grass (may be slight difference) for the description. For example, if frost tolerance/winter kill is your primary concern then you would want to buy Zenith. If disease resistance to dollar spot is your primary concern then you would want to buy Compadre.
