Lawn Aerators

Many lawns, particularly lawns which are used a lot, have a problem with compacted soil. Compacted soil restricts the movement of water and air to roots of plant life. The soil under lawns tends to compact readily because, unlike garden soil, it is virtually never worked or turned. This is where lawn aerating is needed as it is the alternative to tilling.

Intensively maintained lawns should be aerated twice a year or lawns with heavily compacted soil or severe thatch problems should be aerated twice a year. For other lawns, using a lawn aerator once a year is sufficient.

Mechanically lawn aerating is really a simple process. It consists of perforating the soil with either small or large holes, which allow water, air and fertilizer ot get to the roots. Using a liquid lawn aerator involves a different and more complex process to achieve aeration, but is very effective and easy to do. LazyMan adds organic compost and mycorrhizae to the soil which are both beneficial. In either case, using aerating enables roots to grow deeply and produce a more vigorous lawn.

LazyMan™ Liquid Gold

LazyMan™ Liquid Gold lawn aerator, dethatcher and conditioner is a 3-in-1 easy apply spray-on liquid application to aerate, dethatch, and condition your turf and soil. This revolutionary polymer based liquid (polymaleic anhydride terpolymer and maleic anhydride sulfonated copolymer) also has humic acids, kelp, non-pathogenic thatch eating microbes, and mycorrhizae. The aeration portion of LazyMan Liquid Gold™ is a uniquely formulated high grade non-ionic soil aerator. It helps reduce crusting, loosens up hard clay soils, aggregates sandy soil, and allows water and oxygen to better reach plant roots by reducing the surface tension between the water and the soil.

Liquid Lawn Aerator

LazyMan™ liquid lawn aerator is designed to decrease the surface tension between water and soil while improving the growth and activity of micro-organisms necessary for a healthy soil environment. Our liquid soil aerator is so easy to use even a LazyMan can do it! Not only are you improving the soil, but you are adding mycorrhizae and humic acids to the turf or plants to make their environment healthier. We added humic acids to our liquid lawn aerator so it will keep the soil aerated longer as well as add organic compost to the soil.

Plug Lawn Aerator

When lawns look a bit brown and lifeless, or have heavily compacted soil, it's a sure bet that lawn aeration will bring new life to your tired lawn. Lawn aeration allows water, oxygen, and nutrients to reach your lawn's roots directly. Use a core lawn aerator with either hollow tines or metal tubes. Cores pulled out of the soil let air and water filter through the soil. These cores are 3⁄4 inch in diameter, 2 to 3 inches deep, and 3 inches apart. Three or more passes over the turf are required for proper hole spacing. Soil moisture at the time of aeration is important. If it is too dry, the lawn aerator tines do not penetrate to a sufficient depth. If the soil is too wet, the lawn aerator tines will clog and not deposit the cores on the soil surface.

Spike Lawn Aerator

Spike lawn aerators are the easiest and least expensive aeration method (except for liquid lawn aerators) and is done by using a solid tine or a metal spike and putting an angular hole in the ground. Using this aeration method, the turf heals quicker than with core aeration because no soil is being removed. Use can use a spike lawn aerator anytime of the year. But the effects of the solid tine method are short term. Another problem is that the soil is pushed to the sides of the hole compacting the area again. Using a liquid lawn aerator is a better form of lawn aeration.
