Alternanthera (Alternanthera Purple Knight) - Alternanthera Purple Knight has some of the darkest foliage available in any plant species. The foliage actually gets darker and more beautiful the hotter it gets! The most heat-loving Alternanthera yet.
Never before available from flower seed, Alternanthera is one of the finest foliage plants around for the sunny to lightly shaded garden, and 'Purple Knight' is far the best of the spreaders, with a purple cast that actually deepens with exposure to heat. The deep purple foliage offers a great contrast to flowering plants and various green foliages.
Alternanthera establishes nicely from flower seed, and it quickly reaches just 16 to 20 inches tall but spreads up to 3 feet wide, making a nice impact in the flowering annual bed, great for pots on the patio, or a super hanging basket. Marvelously heat tolerant, Alternanthera reaches its deepest, richest tones in full sun, but will turn an interesting burgundy-bronze in partial shade.
