Heavenly Blue Morning Glory

Morning Glory (Ipomoea Tricolor Heavenly Blue) - The most popular variety, Heavenly Blue, can easily be grown from Morning Glory flower seed. When people think of Morning Glory, they often think of Heavenly Blue with its intense sky blue blooms with white throats. The blooms are heavy from summer until frost, and it drops its own flower seeds to produce a display for next year's season. Like most Morning Glory, the flowers will open in the morning and then close again in afternoon. Perfect for covering unsightly buildings, tumbling over fences, or decorating any vertical garden structure from the mailbox to the lamppost.

Growing Morning Glory Heavenly Blue from flower seed is easy. Because they have a hard seed coat, nicking the seed coat with a knife tip or rubbing seeds with a piece of sandpaper will improve germination. After nicking the seeds, place them in a bowl and soak overnight in warm water.

Seeds can be planted directly outdoors in any reasonably good garden soil that receives at least six hours of bright light during the day. Sow Ipomoea flower seeds after all danger of frost has passed, 6 - 8 seeds per foot. Thin to 12 inches apart. To get a jumpstart in the spring, seeds can be planted indoors in a container and then transplanted outdoors when they have 2 - 3 leaves.
