Dwarf Morning Glory Royal Ensign (Convolvulus Tricolor Minor Royal Ensign) - Grow this deep blue mounding variety from Dwarf Morning Glory flower seed for colorful, hardy, compact bedding plants. Convolvulus Tricolor is also perfect for containers or window boxes. Royal Ensign morning glory features 2 inch trumpet-shaped blooms that are tri-colored: deep blue, with a yellow throat surrounded by a white edge.
Morning glories are prolific bloomers and will bloom until frost. They are also liberal self-seeders, dropping their own flower seeds for next year's display. Growing Morning Glory Royal Ensign from flower seed is easy. Because they have a hard seed coat, nicking the seed coat with a knife tip or rubbing seeds with a piece of sandpaper will improve germination. After nicking the seeds, place them in a bowl and soak overnight in warm water.
Morning glory seeds can be planted directly outdoors in any reasonably good garden soil that receives at least six hours of bright light during the day. Sow Convolvulus flower seeds after all danger of frost has passed, 3 - 4 seeds per mound. To get a jumpstart in the spring, morning glory seeds can be planted indoors in a container and then transplanted outdoors when they have 2 - 3 leaves.
