Morning Glory Shiva

Morning Glory (Ipomoea Purpurea Shiva) - Many people consider Morning Glory plants to be one of the best flowers to adorn fences, trellis, arches, and walls. The vining plants of Shiva Morning Glory easily establish from flower seed and have gorgeous white trumpet-shaped flowers with a rose star. Each flower typically opens in the morning time, and the delicate flower fades with the advancing sunlight. Morning Glory flowers usually are 2 - 3 inches in diameter and will attract hummingbirds. Shiva Morning Glory is truly an exquisite flower. Its shorter than other Morning Glory varieties, only climbing to 48 - 60 inches, so it may be easier to find the right spot for it in the garden.

Growing Morning Glory Shiva from flower seed is easy. Because they have a hard seed coat, nicking the seed coat with a knife tip or rubbing seeds with a piece of sandpaper will improve germination. After nicking the seeds, place them in a bowl and soak overnight in warm water.

Seeds can be planted directly outdoors in any reasonably good garden soil that receives at least six hours of bright light during the day. Sow Ipomoea flower seeds after all danger of frost has passed, 6 - 8 seeds per foot. Thin to 12 inches apart. To get a jumpstart in the spring, seeds can be planted indoors in a container and then transplanted outdoors when they have 2 - 3 leaves.
