Nasturtium flower seed is an easy-to-grow edible plant that has 2 to 3 inch blossoms in shades of red, orange, and yellow. The leaves, flowers and seeds are edible, with the leaves having a peppery flavor which makes a great addition to your salads. The seeds were actually used as a pepper substitute during WW II, or you can pickle the seeds when they are still green. Nasturtium does best when it is left alone. It will tolerate most any soil type, but prefers not to be fertilized, otherwise you will get lots of leaves but no flowers. Keep watered, but allow the soil to dry out between watering. Nasturtium makes a great companion plant for the vegetable garden. Its peppery flavored leaves ward off many insects, but it also attracts aphids, which will leave your other plants aphid free.

To grow Nasturtium flower seed, soak the seeds overnight in water, then plant the seeds 1/2" to 1" deep in the area you want the plant to grow after danger of frost has passed, and the seeds should germinate in 7-10 days.
