Ornamental Pepper

Ornamental Pepper (Capsicum Annuum Prairie Fire) - Grown from Capsicum Annuum flower seeds, these Ornamental Peppers put on a colorful display! This annual produces edible upright conical fruit that range in colors from yellow to orange to red to purple at full maturity. The very small fruit, constantly changing colors, make this a lovely ornamental plant. They are also known as "Christmas Peppers" as they make wonderful, colorful houseplants that can be given as a gift.

Ornamental Peppers like to be kept warm. They take well to being grown indoors, as long as they are kept in a sunny window and the soil is kept moist, though not waterlogged. They also make excellent bedding and border plants during the summer.

Sow Ornamental Pepper flower seeds indoors 6 - 8 weeks before planting outside for summer use and cover the seeds with their thickness in soil. Maintain a temperature alternating between 68F nights and 80F days. When ready to transplant, pinch the seedling back to encourage a bushier plant. Sow Capsicum Annuum flower seeds in August for fruiting plants for Christmas. For the best fruits at Christmas, grow the plants outdoors and bring them in before frost. The peppers will mature in 90-100 days. Wear gloves if you will be handling the pepper seeds. These peppers are hot.
