California Poppy White Linen

California Poppy (Eschscholzia Californica White Linen) - This lovely white version of one of the world's favorite wildflowers is upward-facing, cheery and as dependable as the more familiar orange bloom. The solid white, silky, saucer-shaped 2 - 3 inch flowers have 4 delicate paper-like petals. This Poppy blooms best in the cool weather of spring. Great for mixed borders, or stunning when planted in a mass grouping on the garden edge. Grows 12 - 15 inches tall, blooms profusely with finely divided blue-green foliage. California Poppies are easy to grow, and will self-sow. If you allow them to go to seed you may only need to plant them once.

The California White Linen Poppy is a perennial that is usually grown as an annual. In zones 7-10, though, the foliage often overwinters. Sow the Poppy flower seeds and rake the soil covering the seed about 1/8 inch deep, and keep the soil moist after planting until the Poppy flower seeds germinate in 14 - 28 days, depending on the temperature. Thin to about 12 inches apart. Decrease watering after the plants begin to flower. Deadhead spent flowers to prolong blooming and enhance the appearance of the plant. If planted in well-drained soil, White Linen California Poppy plants will thrive with very little water.
