Aerating is a great way to increase the flow of air, water and nutrients into the centipede grass root zone. Aerating each year will improve the quality and consistency of your centipede lawn's growth. It can also be used to renovate areas that are compacted or poorly drained.
Centipede lawns can be aerated at any time during the growing season, as long as they are not suffering from drought. Many prefer to aerate in the spring before the grass begins to green, since it will disrupt their late winter pre emergence weed control applications and open the soil to weed seed infiltration unless you are using a liquid aeration such as Lazyman Aerator or Lazyman Gold. Avoid aerating during spring green up since it will damage tender roots and shoots at a time when the grass is low on stored energy (again unless using Lazyman Gold or Lazyman Aerator as they do not disrupt the root zone like core aerating does.
