Sedum Glaucophyllum Silver Frost

Sedum (Sedum Glaucophyllum) - Another low-growing ground cover plant that is excellent for many different landscape applications. Silver Frost Sedum is commonly called Cliff Stonecrop, and it is native to the southern Appalachians where it grows on lightly shaded limestone outcrops where it is regularly damp but very well-drained. The attractive succulent foliage forms rosettes of tiny, blue-green leaves. It blooms in late spring and 4 inch stems hold clusters of small white flowers.

This Sedum ground cover plant grows in a prostrate, mat-forming manner and is an evergreen. It will spread 12 - 16 inches in diameter. The alpine selections of Stonecrop are excellent for edging or rock garden plants, particularly for hot, dry sites with poor soil.

Sedum has tiny seeds which should be mixed with finest sand or talcum for an even sowing. Sow Sedum ground cover seed indoors 6 - 8 weeks before the last frost is expected. Use small pots or flats and sterile starter mix. Pre-moisten the starter mix and sow Sedum ground cover seeds on the surface. Press the seed into the moistened soil, and do not cover the Sedum seed. Keep the seeds moist but not saturated until they germinate. Water from the underside of the pots or use a spray bottle and lightly mist the seeds.
