CARROT, DANVERS #126
This carrot was developed during the late nineteenth century in Connecticut; it worked wonderfully interplanted with onions and worked particularly well in heavy soils because of its higher fiber content than Nantes type carrots. Wonderful flavor. Very resistant to cracks and splits, strong tops, thus making harvesting easy. Danvers 126 was created for better yields, smoother skin, and uniformity. Danvers 126 is a heat tolerant carrot variety that will also work in a wide range of soils. 6-7" long and about 2" at the shoulder this is a premier storage carrot.
Observations made throughout the season in a Texas A&M study indicated that 'Danvers 126' had a more vigorous top growth and this may account for some of the yield difference between these two cultivars as Danvers outperformed the modern hybrid carrots. Danvers 126 is a premier storage carrot. Carrots should be cleaned and washed when they enter the storage. This packet will plant approximately a 33 foot row.
PLANTING INSTRUCTIONS:
In full sun and well-drained soil, sow 3 seeds per inch in the row. Cover seeds firmly with soil. When plants are 2 inches tall, thin to 2 inches apart in the row. For fresh carrots all season, plant every 3 weeks until 75 days before the first fall frost.
PLANTING INFO/DIRECTIONS:
Too much water can cause carrots to crack. They should be kept weeded (a clean mulch can reduce this job). Also, place soil lightly over exposed roots to prevent cracking.

CARROT, RED CORED CHANTENAY
Sweet flavored, crisp, and free of fiber, the roots range from 5 to 6 in. long. Orange-red roots are coreless, have semi-blunt ends and narrow shoulders. Requires a loose soil, deeply worked with organic matter to achieve its full potential. This variety, originally introduced in France in the 1830s, stump rooted, five to 5½ inch long, tender, sweet, and bright orange roots.
For a tasty, nutritious snack, it’s hard to beat carrots. Carrots are rich in vitamin A, needed for healthy eyes, skin and immune system. Plus, carrots are loaded with beta-carotene, which helps reduce the risk of cancer. This variety holds the color during cooking. This variety is great for home vegetable gardens. Slender varieties are excellent for eating fresh. For continuous crops, seed every 2 weeks early spring through midsummer.
Rich color and sweet, crunchy thick flesh make this an ideal home garden carrot. About 5 1/2 inches long when mature. Performs well in heavy soils. One of nature's best sources of vitamin A. This packet will plant approximately a 33 foot row.
