Godetia (Godetia Bottae Lilac) - Lilac Godetia is native to Southern California and a few other warm climates. It is also called Farewell-to-Spring. Godetia, easily grown from flower seeds, blooms from late spring into the summer, producing spindly, waxy stems and sparse narrow leaves. The Godetia flower is a bowl shaped bloom with lavender-lilac petals, often lighter in color toward the base and speckled with red. This fast growing flower will bloom in just 12 weeks after sowing Godetia seeds.
Lilac Godetia is actually from the Clarkia family. Of all the Clarkias grown, this one tends to be the whispiest and has the least upright growth. The soft lavender flowers are large in comparison to the overall scale of the plant. Like other Clarkias, this is not an ever blooming annual. Its bloom season is pretty much relinquished by summer. It blooms very nicely during the spring time then quietly fades away. This type of Godetia is not known for self-sowing so you would have to sow Clarkia seeds every year.
For best results, sow Farewell to Spring seeds directly outdoors into prepared soil after temperatures have warmed up. Sow the flower seeds directly into the ground or into pots. Transplanting it is often unsuccessful. Godetia Bottae lilac blossom makes an excellent cut flower.
