Rock Cress (Aubrieta Hybrida Royal Mix) - Rock Cress is a compact, mat-forming, evergreen perennial ground cover with small leaves and iridescent flowers in spring. It is easy to establish from Aubrieta ground cover seeds, and it is an incredible performer producing masses of blooms. This ground cover plant only grows to about 4 inches tall, but it can spread up to two feet! This mix has bloom colors of blue, red, violet, and shades of each to make a wonderful display. Aubrieta Royal Mix ground cover seed can be planted in pots or directly in the garden.
Rock Cress Aubrieta is a worthwhile plant for the rock garden. This mat-forming perennial ground cover seems to thrive in impoverished and hungry shallow soils. Rock Cress literally carpets the ground in a gorgeous profusion of blooms in early spring. Plant Rock Cress in crevices of walls or on a steep bank to flow over in a broad range of colors. In the hottest climates, Rock Cress plants will perform better with some partial shade during the hot afternoon.
Sow Aubrieta ground cover seed indoors 6 - 8 weeks before the last expected frost date. Use starter trays using a sterilized mix. Press the Rock Cress seeds into the soil and thinly cover. The Aubrieta seed needs light to germinate. Transplant into the garden 12 inches apart after frost danger has passed. After frost season has passed, Rock Cress ground cover seeds can be directly sown into a prepared seedbed outdoors.
