Juncus (Hedgehog) - Each quill is tipped in an inky black appearance making this a very unique ornamental grass. Evergreen and very compact, it's ideal for containers. This grass adds curb appeal as passerby's will take a second look. This easy evergreen perennial ornamental grass sports black tips on each of its spiky leaves and a rounded, low habit, resembling a porcupine! Just a foot high and wide, it's a great size for containers, edging, accent plantings, and border groupings. And few plants can equal its ease of care.

The leaves are spiky and blue-green, standing stiffly upright on very dense plants. Their black tips stand out beautifully, especially as the plant matures and becomes even more full. Remaining into winter, they add texture as well as color to the sunny garden.

But as impressive as this European Meadow Rush is in the garden, it may be even better in containers. Something about the mounded shape just suits containers down to the ground -- and you can appreciate the stiff, pointed "quills" at closer range this way!
