Pink Muhly Grass

Pink Muhly Grass (Muhlenbergia Capillaris) - Muhly grass, with Latin name Muhlenbergia capillaries, is a type of ornamental grass that grows natively in various areas across the United States. It is one of the top choices when choosing ornamental grasses for landscaping due to its beautiful pink blooms, which are billowing and delicate. Pinky muhly grass is the most common type of this ornamental grass, and the redish, pinkish tinge is a wonderful addition to any landscape.

Pink muhly grass prefers to be grown in full sun. Make sure that you plant the ornamental grass seeds in an area where it will be able to get at least six to eight hours of sunlight. Muhly ornamental grass can also tolerate partial shade, however, dense shade is not an option. Muhly grass grows best in fertile, organic soil. If ever you are planting in clay, sandy soil, or other poor conditions for your soil, you can add a healthy dose of organic matter for the muhly grass to grow better. You can also check the pH level of the soil and make sure it is between the range of 5.5 to 6.8. You do not need to worry about diseases and pests since muhly grass is a type of ornmental grass which is quite resistant against those problems.

Muhly grass is easy to maintain. All you need to do is cut the ornamental grass within twelve inches from the ground during the winter months before its new growth in spring. Make sure that you clean all the dirt that could impede growth as well as thoroughly remove dead foliage from the ornamental plant. After you are done pruning, it is not a bad idea to add a small amount of fertilizer to the soil around the muhly grass.
