Osteospermum (Osteospermum Ecklonis Akila Purple) - This African Daisies tender perennial purple flowers are grown from Osteospermum seeds in USDA zones 9 - 10. It can easily be grown in cooler zones as an annual if desired. The Osteospermum African Daisy blooms when the weather is cool, making them good color for early Spring. Only reaches 10 - 14 inches tall and 14 - 20 inches wide make it an excellent choice for the front of the border.
Osteospermum thrives in warm climates and will bloom from early Spring into Fall. The bright ever-blooming flowers are about 2 - 3 inches wide, having a large floret surrounding a center disk. The Akila Osteospermum have an excellent tolerance for heat and drought. Osteospermums are desired most for their beautiful foliage, large, plentiful blooms extending above the foliage, tolerance for heat and its unusual color combinations. This is a great annual for Spring, Summer, and into the Fall season. With the upright, compact habit, this African Daisy is a lovely choice for mixed containers and beds.
