Royal Sweet Pea (Lathyrus Odoratus Royal Mix) - Sweet Peas are a very colorful vining plant with large fragrant blooms, and they grow so easily from flower seeds. The plant has long stems so it makes an excellent cut flower, and is a wonderful addition to any flower garden.

Royal Sweet Pea vines need full sun and rich, well-drained soil. They do best if the seed is sown in the area they will grow. During the growing season, use nitrogen fertilizer sparingly because too much will cause lots of plant growth and fewer flowers. When the plants are 3 - 6 inches tall, pinch the tops to encourage side shoots. Water regularly, especially in high heat to keep the flowers cool, and dead head the spent flowers to keep the plant blooming.

For best germination, Sweet Pea flower seeds need to be scarified before sowing. Nick the seed with a nail clipper breaks the outer coat and then soak overnight in warm water. Sow scented Lathyrus seeds directly outdoors.

Old Spice Sweet Pea (Lathyrus Odoratus Old Spice America) - Truly an old-fashioned flower, sweet peas have been cultivated since the 1800's. Old Spice Sweet Peas perform better in warm climates than other varieties. This heirloom variety that has stunning white flowers streaked with red with a heavenly scent. This antique variety is from 1896 and has 2 - 3 huge and lovely looking blooms that are bunched on each long stem.  A good variety where summer heat will not usually allow sweet peas to grow well. Grow on a trellis for the best cut flowers, or let twine through bushes for an informal look.

For best germination, Sweet Pea seeds need to be scarified before sowing. Nicking the seed with a nail clipper breaks the outer coat so they can absorb water immediately. By doing this a larger percentage of the seeds will germinate and they will sprout a few days earlier. After nicking the seed, soak the Sweet Peas seeds over night in tepid water. Do this the night before sowing the flower seeds directly outside.

Bicolor Sweet Pea (Lathyrus Odoratus Bicolor Wiltshire Ripple) - Having red to maroon streaks and specks on white background petals, this variety is uniquly different from the classic pastel bicolor sweet peas which are mostly white or cream. Recently devoleped sweet peas do not have the sweet scent that gives the species its name in the first place, however, Wiltshire Ripple is delightfully fragrant.  Needs at least 12 hours of daylight for best flowering making it a later blooming variety and grows to approximately 78 inches.

For best germination, Sweet Pea seeds need to be scarified before sowing. Nicking the seed with a nail clipper breaks the outer coat so they can absorb water immediately.
