Planting Directions

Royal Sweet Pea (Lathyrus Odoratus Royal Maroon) - This very sweet scented and colorful maroon Sweet Pea is one of the most exceptional flowers. It is quick to mature, and in approximately 8 weeks after sowing the Sweet Peas seeds, blooms will begin to emerge. These annuals will grow to approximately 72 - 84 inches, vining and climbing a trellis or fence very nicely. Like many of the heirloom varieties, this one is cool tolerant and has good disease resistance. It is a gorgeous addition to any garden, and it produces masses of highly scented blooms from summer until frost.
For best germination, Sweet Pea seeds need to be scarified before sowing. Nicking the seed with a nail clipper breaks the outer coat so they can absorb water immediately. By doing this a larger percentage of the seeds will germinate and they will sprout a few days earlier. After nicking the seed, soak the Sweet Peas seeds over night in tepid water. Do this the night before sowing the flower seeds directly outside.
