Grow Blue Sweet Peas in full sun, but in areas of very hot summer weather, provide some afternoon shade for the best performance. Position them away from winds and rotate locations from year to year to prevent pests. In cold climates plant the flower seed in early spring, as soon as the soil can be worked. In warm climates, plant in October through January for spring bloom.
It is best to nick the flower seeds and then soak them over night in warm water. Sow Sweet Pea seeds directly outdoors. When the Sweet Pea seedlings have 3 - 4 pairs of leaves, pinch the top of the seedling, leaving 2 - 3 pairs of leaves. This encourages a more branching habit making the Sweet Pea plants fuller.
