Sweet Pea (Lathyrus odoratus Sugar 'n Spice) - A dwarf compact mixture with a spreading habit in a wide color range only reaching 8 inches in height. A wonderfully fragrant, dwarf sweet pea perfect for planting in containers or hanging baskets. Blooms form from each leaf node, create a brilliant ball of color in both solids and bicolors. Growth is naturally neat and compact, to 8 inches tall and wide. Pinching is not needed. Be sure to place Sugar 'n Spice near a window or sitting area to best enjoy the spicy perfume.
Grow Sweet Pea plants in full sun, but in areas with very hot summer weather, provide some afternoon shade for the best performance. Position them away from winds and rotate locations from year to year to prevent pests. In cold climates plant the seed in early spring, as soon as the soil can be worked. In warm climates, plant in October through January for spring bloom. For best germination, soak the Sweet Pea seeds overnight in warm water.
