Superb Pink (Dianthus Superbus Red) - Dianthus Superbus Red is a perennial dianthus grown from flower seed which reaches approximately 16 inches in height. Dianthus Superbus is hardy to zone 3 and is not frost tender. It typically blooms with red flowers from late spring to early fall. The flowers are heavily fringed unlike any other dianthus. They are also very fragrant, have upright stems, and will actually begin flowering the first year when planted from flower seed even though this is a perennial dianthus.

Sow Dianthus Superbus seed indoors 4 - 6 weeks before last frost.  Use sterile starter mix, and sow the Dianthus seed on top, covering lightly with soil.  Transplant seedlings outdoors after frost season has passed.  For directly sowing Dianthus flower seeds outdoors, wait until danger of frost has passed, and directly sow seed into prepared beds.  Lightly cover 1/16 inch and keep seeds moist.
