Hypoestes is often used as a perennial house plant because of its unusual foliage. It also makes an attractive bedding or container plant, especially when used in shaded areas as accents or borders. It comes in a variety of colors and grows readily from seed.

Plant indoors 4 - 6 weeks before the last frost. Or, start directly outdoors after danger of frost has passed.

Plant in partial shade to full shade with moist, well-drained soil.

• You have two options for planting seeds: Sow them directly into the garden after the risk of frost has passed, by not covering the seed but pressing into the soil. Alternatively, start seeds indoors four to six weeks before the average last frost date in spring.
• Presoak seeds overnight before planting 8 - 10 seeds per cell or plant.

Remember to keep mulch away from the plant stems to avoid potential rot issues.
• During establishment water about every 3 - 4 days, letting the soil dry out partly between waterings. Once established, water when the top half of the soil feel dry to the touch.
