Purple Loosestrife is a perennial that was introduced to the United States and Canada as an ornamental for wetlands in the 1800s. Promoted by beekeepers for its nectar-producing capability, it often inhabits reed swamps, margins of lakes and slow-flowing rivers, ditches, and marshes.

Plant directly outdoors in the early spring.

Plant in full sun with wet, neutral to alkaline soil.

• Sow seeds directly into the garden in the early spring, by surfacing sowing but not covering.
• Presoak seeds overnight before planting 7 - 8 seeds per cell or plant.
• Space plants 36 - 72 inches apart in garden.

• Keep weeds under control during the growing season. Weeds compete with plants for water, space and nutrients, so control them by either cultivating often or use a mulch to prevent their seeds from germinating.
• Mulches play a vital role in preserving soil moisture and ensuring consistent soil temperatures. When it comes to annuals, using organic mulch made from shredded leaves not only enhances the appearance of the bed but also enriches the soil as it decomposes over time. Remember to keep mulch away from the plant stems to avoid potential rot issues.
• Water about every week to keep the soil wet and moistened, as the plant does not tolerate dryness. If grown by a body of water, it doesn't need watering as often.
• Cut back dead stems prior to new growth emerging.
