Godetia (Godetia Grandiflora Tall Double Mix) - Godetia seeds produce this lovely mix of flowers that are a perfect addition for the flower garden. Godetia, also known as Clarkie, Farewell to Spring, and Satin Flower, is commonly grown across the United States, but it is native to western North America. It can be found between California and British Columbia. Bees are attracted to Godetia flowers as well as many species of butterflies. Godetia plants are often grown in meadows where its brilliant flowers stand out among the grass.
Godetia should be planted in soil with lower nutrient levels; it has been known to grow in soils that are sandy, alkaline, or those that contain salt. A Godetia that is planted in nutrient rich soils will produce more foliage and fewer blooms. For this reason, you should not fertilize Godetia plants with high nitrogen fertilizers or you will get the same result: all foliage and no flower.
The Godetia seeds germinate better in cooler weather. Godetia do not tolerate hot or humid climates, temperatures above 80F degrees will cause the flower to fail. Transplanting it is often unsuccessful. Sow the Farewell to Spring seeds directly outside, either in the ground or in pots. Sow the Godetia flower seeds in fall if you live in western North America and spring if you live on the eastern part of the continent. Satin Flower Godetia makes an excellent cut flower.
