CARE & MAINTENANCE

Viola

Viola Odorata (Sweet Violet Reine De Neiges) - One of the few flowers that has early spring flowering, but wait that's not all!  It flowers again August to October. Suitable for natural landscaping. Attractive white flowers for butterflies and other pollinators and is used for erosion control. Easy to grow in the flower garden or as a ground cover plant only growing to approximately 8 inches tall. Sweet violet can self-sow if conditions are suitable.  It is called " sweet violet" due to its aromatic scent. This love lived perennial is perfect for a low maintenance planting from flower seeds for many uses.

If you prefer to start viola odorata seeds indoors then start in late winter. Keep at 65 - 75F and cover with humidity dome. If germination does not occur within 28 days, cold stratify at 40F for 6 weeks (this can be done by placing in the refrigerator), then keep at 50F for germination. You may sow these flower seedsd directly outdoors in early spring or late summer and fall in a nursery bed. Keep plants fairly moist with about 1 inch of water per week or possibly even more in very hot weather. Viola odorata can take full sun near the coast and in cool summer areas but absolutely thrives in the shade.

Johnny Jump-up (Viola cornuta) - These are such delightful little flowers that bring charm and grace to any summer landscape. They grow very easily from Viola seeds, and once established will even self-sow. They are not invasive just delightful! Johnny Jump Up wildflowers have been around for centuries and are native to the mountains of Spain and France. They are found growing in many temperate regions of the world, and they are widely admired for their bright little faces. Other common names you may have heard for this flower are Wild Pansy and Heartsease. Since they are cool weather flowers, Johnny Jump Up wildflowers will bloom in the spring, fade during the heat of summer, and will often return with a new flush of flowers in the fall.

Medicinal herb

Viola Johnny Jump up is also considered to be a medicinal herb, the Wild Pansy herb was used to treat skin conditions and was found growing in many herb gardens.

How to grow

How To Grow Johnny Jump Up From Seed: Sow Johnny Jump-up wildflower seeds directly outdoors in early spring or in the fall. The Viola seeds are tiny so do not cover the herb seeds with more than 1/16 of an inch of soil. Thin Johnny Jump Up seedlings to 6 inches apart. Johnny Jump-up plants likes moist, rich soil, but they are adaptable to a wide variety of soil types.

Sunny areas may be too hot in southern climates, while shady areas may be too cold in northern zones. Depending on your temperature zone, these wildflowers may grow in full sun to full shade. Trimming Johnny Jump-ups back in the heat of summer will encourage another flush of blooms in the fall.

Pansy (Pansy Spooky Halloween Mix) - You may not have known it, but Pansies are the most sold flower in the world. There are two main types of pansies, clear or pure & faced or blotch. A pansy with a face/blotch, features a dark blotch in the center of the flower. Pansies are available in an amazing array of colors including this unique orange and black display. Pansy plants can overwinter in many areas if they had time to develop a good footing and are easy to grow for these raw, prime pansy seeds. Pansies rarely have any disease or insect problems making them very low maintenance. The Panola series of Pansy plants are a cross between a Pansy & Viola which results in medium sized flowers that hold up better in rain and snow than the much larger flowering pansy varieties.
