Sweet violet can self-sow if conditions are suitable.  It is called " sweet violet" due to its aromatic scent. This love lived perennial is perfect for a low maintenance planting from flower seeds for many uses.

If you prefer to start viola odorata seeds indoors then start in late winter. Keep at 65 - 75F and cover with humidity dome. If germination does not occur within 28 days, cold stratify at 40F for 6 weeks (this can be done by placing in the refrigerator), then keep at 50F for germination. You may sow these flower seedsd directly outdoors in early spring or late summer and fall in a nursery bed. Keep plants fairly moist with about 1 inch of water per week or possibly even more in very hot weather.
