Wormwood Planting and Care Guide

Quick Facts About Wormwood

This perenial has finely-divided foliage that is gray-green in color and aromatic. In mid-summer, it produces many yellow flowers. Wormwood herb plants have a long history as a medicinal herb with use dating all the way back to the ancient Egyptians. In addition to medicinal use, Wormwood is most known for the liqueur absinthe.

Start Wormwood seeds indoor 8 - 12 weeks prior to the end of frost season. These herb seeds are very small, so starting the seeds indoors has the best results.

Care And Maintenance

  • Fertilize once or twice a year
  • If the plant wilts in the summer, trim back to revitalize
  • Trimming and deadheading the flowers can prevent the plant from getting too leggy
  • Harvest the stalks (the tender ones that are lighter green) and hang upside down in a ventilated place for drying
