Statice is native to the Mediterranean, and it flourishes in hot, dry conditions. It offers brightly colored, flat flower clusters in many colors. The Statice flowers have a papery texture and hold their color well for years after drying. The stems are sturdy and long making them an excellent flower for cutting and drying.

Statice flower seeds can be directly sown outside in areas with long summers. Wait until frost danger has passed and temperatures are consistently warm. Or, start Statice seeds indoors 6 - 8 weeks prior to the end of frost season for transplanting outdoors.

Statice thrives in full sun, hot and arid climates. If they are being grown in humid conditions, give the plants more space for air movement. The soil should moderately moist and well-draining. Statice plants do not tolerate heavy, clay soils.

• Fill starter trays with moistened soil
• Place 2 - 3 Statice seeds into each tray cell and press the seed into the soil
• Light is needed for germination so do not bury the seed
• Keep the soil moist but not soggy for germination
• Heat mats are suggested for keeping the seeds constantly warm
• Grow seedlings in a bright window or under grow lights
• Once frost danger has passed, harden off the Statice plants for 7 - 10 days
• Transplant outside into their permanent location
• Or, for direct sowing, weed and work the garden soil
• Add compost to improve drainage
• Smooth the surface and sow the seeds
• Do not cover the seeds but press them into the soil
• Keep the are moist for germination
• Thin to the strongest plant 16 - 20 inches apart

• Irrigate regularly to establish the Statice plants
• The plants are fairly drought tolerant - water when soil is dry or during prolonged dry periods
• Apply an all-purpose fertilizer a 2 - 3 times during the growing season
• Hartvest Statice flowers when they are fully opened
